Electricals specialists Currys and Comet, and struggling entertainment retailer HMV are among the companies offering reward money on customers’ online purchases as part of a new initiative launched Barclaycard Freedom.
More than 20,000 other retailers are involved in the scheme, which will see five per cent reward money given to eligible Barclaycard holders on the first 40,000 purchases at the e-store up until January 5th.
Developed in partnership with performance marketing network Affiliate Window, the e-store will allow users to gain one per cent reward on all purchases made after this date.
It comes at a time when Santander Credit Cards is predicting that online retailers in the UK will take £6.4 billion in sales this Christmas, with 70 per cent of festive shoppers set to buy presents via the internet.
In comparison, the financial services company predicts that only 57 per cent of the UK’s total Christmas spend will be on the high street this year.
Sarah Alspach of Barclaycard Freedom said: “Barclaycard Freedom eStore is a unique way of earning reward money while shopping online.
“The five per cent promotion will enable our cardholders to strengthen their Reward Money balance and treat themselves in the new year.
David Hall, Partnerships Director at Affiliate Window, added: “The Barclaycard proposition demonstrates how significant performance marketing has become to e-commerce.
“Customers use their Barclaycard to pay for online purchases, making the Barclaycard Freedom eStore a natural first step in their search for retailers and products.”
