Morrisons Retail Director Gunter to retire

The UK’s fourth largest supermarket Morrisons has announced that Group Retail Director Mark Gunter will retire next year, paving the way for Mark Harrison to replace him.

Gunter will step down from his current role in June this year, taking on an advisory position while the changeover process takes place.

Harrison will officially assume his new job from June 2012 when his predecessor leaves the retail world behind.

The transition process comes at a time of change for the business as a whole, with Morrisons looking to establish itself in the growing convenience sector during the coming months.

Sir Ian Gibson, Chairman of Morrisons, said that the departing Retail Director has played a key role in the grocer’s development from regional operator to national business over the last 25 years.

CEO at the company Dalton Philips added: “Mark Gunter has been a tremendous asset to Morrisons for many years always leading as a retailer.

“He will retire with the best wishes and gratitude of the whole company.

“I am pleased that Morrisons has developed many excellent retailers and that Mark Harrison has the skills and experience to step up to the key role of Group Retail Director.”
