J Sainsbury Plc today announced that Matt Brittin will be joining the company’s board as a non-executive director.
Brittin currently works for Google, where he is the internet giant’s UK Managing Director (MD).
He joined Google as Director of UK Sales where he handled the search engines commercial relationships, before being promoted to the MD role in 2009.
David Tyler, Sainsbury’s Chairman, said: “I am delighted that Matt has agreed to join Sainsbury’s board.
“We were looking for someone who would complement the skills and experience of our existing team and I am sure he will contribute widely to our future growth aspirations.”
Sainsbury’s, which saw sales rise 7.5 per cent year-on-year in the run up to Christmas, will be hoping that Brittin can help the grocer continue to grow and expand sales both on and offline.
“I am very pleased to be joining the board of Sainsbury’s,” Brittin added.
“Its brand has strong consumer values and its sales are going from strength to strength.”
At Sainsbury’s Brittin will be a member of the audit and nomination committees, in which he will aid the other board members in succession planning and senior management development as well as reviewing the companies funding and financial performance.
