Poundstretcher recruits ex-Netto marketing boss


Value retailer Poundstretcher has appointed the former Head of Marketing at Danish supermarket group Netto as its new Head of Sales & Marketing.

Mike Hinchcliffe took up the role this week, having spent eight years with the grocer now owned by Asda.

The marketer’s departure from Netto comes just two months after Charles Kay quit as Managing Director and was replaced by the firm’s Property Director William Smith.

Hinchcliffe’s responsibilities at his new employer will include directing strategic marketing & communications activity and redeveloping consumer advertising.

He commented: “Poundstretcher has always been on my retail radar, particularly during my time at Netto.

“In the current economic climate, I believe there are numerous opportunities for us to further grow the brand and the retail offering for our customers.

“One of my first tasks will be to implement consumer focus groups. The results of this research and ongoing analysis of retail market data will shape marketing and communications campaigns over the coming months.”

Aziz Tayub, CEO of Poundstretcher, said Hinchcliffe’s arrival represented “a real coup” for his company.

“Mike’s in-depth knowledge of the discount and value retail sector is invaluable to us and I’m delighted to welcome him into the business.”
