E-commerce giant eBay has announced that experienced retailer Miriam Lahage is moving from a US role to a new position focusing on growing eBay’s fashion business in Europe.
Lahage joined eBay US in 2010 after more than two decades of retail experience, including launching Koodos, the first online discount boutique of designer brands in the UK.
Miriam Lahage’s arrival comes as part of eBay Europe’s ambitious plans to increase fashion sales, with last year’s launch of Fashion Outlet in the UK and Germany still attracting well known high street brands.
The new appointment is another example of eBay’s efforts to cement its position in the fashion market following the recent $200 million (£129.35 million) acquisition of German online fashion retailer Brands4friends.
Clare Gilmartin, Vice President of eBay Europe, said: “There is still a huge potential for growth in the online fashion market and her extensive retail experience and entrepreneurial vision for fashion ecommerce will be instrumental in leading this growing part of the business from strength to strength.”
Financial results for eBay’s fourth quarter, reported last week, showed sales of clothes, shoes and accessories at the company were ten per cent ahead of the market average in the UK for this category.
Commenting at the time, Gilmartin said the results highlighted how eBay has become “a serious fashion player in the UK”.
