Sainsbury’s has defeated fierce competition amongst retailers in acquiring two new locations for outlets in Brighton.
The supermarket chain which already boasts multiple stores within the city has chosen to expand on its services by providing a new 5,000 sq ft store in the centre of town.
The new site is located at 134-138 North Street, sitting next to Churchill Square Shopping Centre and running along one of the busiest streets in Brighton.
Ignis Real Estate, which let the unit, signed a 15-year lease over at £190,000 per annum, including a five-yearly upward-only rent review.
James Andrews of Kitchen La Frenais Morgan, the company advising Ignis, said: “Demand for the unit was strong because of the clean nature of the floor space, which few other buildings can offer in this busy location.
“Whilst competition was fierce, Sainsburys moved quickly and concluded legal documentation in a matter of days.”
Sainsbury’s also plans to open a store on Carden Avenue in the suburbs of the city, offering competition and an alternative to the major Asda site that operates a few minutes away on Crowhurst Road.
