John Lewis names new Fashion Buying Director

Ex-TK Maxx Managing Director Susanne Given has been appointed Buying Director of John Lewis’s fashion team.

Starting next week, her new job will involve developing the department store group’s premium brand strategy as the company looks to grow its fashion market share in the UK.

Given has a top-level retail level background, having held the position of Merchandise Director at luxury department store Harrods and various senior buying jobs at established firms such as House of Fraser and Sainsbury’s.

She left TK Maxx early last year after five years at the discount fashion retailer, and will now report to John Lewis Buying and Brand Director Peter Ruis.

Commenting on her arrival, he said: “I am delighted that Susanne is joining the team.

“Her appointment is indicative of the strength and ambition we maintain in what has been our fastest growing area.”

In a recent interview with Retail Gazette, John Lewis’s Retail Operations Director Andrew Murphy attributed much of the company’s success in recent years to Ruis and his team.

Murphy said: “I must give massive credit to our buying teams lead by Peter, because what is available for the customer to buy is what defines the success of a business.”
