A new 20,000 sq ft expansion of the Bullring shopping centre in Birmingham called Spiceal Street has been granted planning permission.
The extension will house several restaurants as the centre looks to improve the overall offering of the retail hub.
Birmingham City Council highlighted the “high quality design of the buildings and an enhanced focal point within the city core,” when accepting the plans which will see the extension of two existing units and the creation of three new ones.
Tim Walley, General Manager at Bullring, commented: “We are thrilled to have been granted approval for the Spiceal Street development and look forward to offering our shoppers a new dining experience and evening destination in the heart of the city centre.
“We envisage work will begin in the next few weeks as we look towards an opening date in winter 2011.”
Spiceal Street will push the site’s capacity to its limits maximising all of the space available to Bullring and Walley told Retail Gazette that it will be the final expansion to the Bullring.
Walley hopes the new restaurants will, along with Jamie’s Italian which opened at the end of last year, will improve the “evening economy” of the centre.
