Health food retailer Holland & Barrett has today launched a new marketing campaign, offering customers “buy one, get one for a penny” on hundreds of its products in-store and online.
Having rolled out the offer in the Republic of Ireland last November, where customers could buy one product and get another item for one cent, the retailer has opted to provide the deal in its 600-strong UK store network.
Television celebrity and Holland & Barrett brand ambassador Gethin Jones will star in a TV advert to support the campaign, which airs for the first time today.
Customers will be able to access the ‘Penny Sale’ deal from today until April 7th.
Emma Hobbs, Group Marketing Manager for the retailer’s parent firm NBTY Europe, said: “This latest promotion provides exceptional value to our customers, with hundreds of own label and branded products included in the sale, giving customers a saving on their regular shop plus the choice to try new products for only a penny.”
The company announced in January that like-for-like (LFL) sales increased by 2.3 per cent year-on-year in December 2010, helping the business enjoy a successful Christmas period.
LFL trading grew 1.62 per cent year-on-year in the three months leading up to December 31st 2010, prompting the retailer to say consumers are “refusing to cut spending on key areas of their lives” despite a tightening of the purse strings across the UK and Ireland.
