Online grocer Ocado has chosen its Head of Corporate Finance & Investor Relations Lawrence Hene to lead the e-retailer’s grocery retail team.
The former management consultant at OC&C has been promoted to the newly created position of Head of Grocery Retail as the company looks to “deliver an even better experience” to its customers.
Hene played a major role in Ocado’s stock market flotation last year and his new position sees him take responsibility for the key teams of trading at the company, headed by Zak Watts.
The Ocado Own Brand, Marketing & Customer Experience and Supplier Liaison divisions - led by Sandra Ziles, Matt Knight and Richard Ruddy respectively - will all now report to Lawrence in his new role.
Tim Steiner, Ocado CEO, said: “I am delighted to welcome Lawrence onto the Ocado Management Committee as our new Head of Grocery Retail.
“He has been an outstanding colleague since joining us in 2009; he was instrumental in our flotation and understands all areas of our business.”
With Waitrose recently announcing a multimillion pound investment in its e-commerce offering and other major supermarkets continuing to improve their e-tail services, Ocado must continue to evolve to stay competitive.
Changes to the management structure at Ocado also come in the wake of the UK’s fourth largest supermarket, Morrisons, moving into the online space earlier this year, with the £70 million acquisition of mother and baby products e-tailer Kiddicare.
