Experienced retail industry boss Rob Templeman has been appointed the new Chairman of the British Retail Consortium (BRC).
Templeman is currently CEO at department store group Debenhams, but recently announced that he will be retiring from the role on September 2nd.
His contract at the BRC will begin in October, when he will succeed the departing Luke Mayhew.
BRC Director General Stephen Robertson said: “Rob is a heavyweight in the world of retail.
“His huge experience and formidable knowledge of the big issues that the sector faces make him an ideal Chairman for the BRC as we work to help create a vibrant and sustainable retail industry for the future.”
Robertson also thanked Mayhew for his work with the organisation, saying the BRC “made great strides” under his chairmanship.
Templeman added: “I am really pleased to be asked to Chair the BRC and look forward to working alongside Stephen and the team.
“Retail is one of the UK’s largest employers. It represents an important part of the country’s economy and the BRC has proven to be the authoritative voice for the industry.”
The new BRC Chairman is also Non-Executive Chairman of gambling company Gala Coral.
Previously he has held the role of CEO at Halfords, Homebase Group and Harveys Furnishing, highlighting his strong retail pedigree.
