More change at Game as new non-exec is hired

Russ Shaw has been appointed as a non-executive director of video gaming products retailer The Game Group as part of its ongoing restructuring programme.

Shaw has over a decade of experience of holding senior positions at leading telecommunications firms and is also a non-exec director on several prominent business boards.

Most recently he was Vice President and General Manager of EMEA & Mobile at Skype from 2009 to 2011 and before this Shaw spent four years at Telefonica SA covering innovation and marketing.

Chris Bell, Chairman of Game, said: “Russ brings a wealth of experience to Game. His impressive background in marketing, online and digital technologies and his strong customer relations focus will be a strong addition to the board as we continue to deliver our strategy.”

Along with his new role with the retailer, Shaw is also a non-exec at mobile solutions firms Unwire and Dialog Semiconductor and the Chairman of the Marketing Board of Great Britain.

Several boardroom and managerial changes have been made by Game in the last few months, with the creation of a new regional managing director role just last month.

Its previous Chairman Peter Lewis stood down in April and sales have continued to slide year-on-year as 2011 has progressed despite a new focus on multichannel and loyalty beginning to improve trading.

Shaw added: “Game has a clear ambition and a strong plan to embrace new technology, and I look forward to sharing my experiences and contributing to their further development.”
