Experienced retail leader John Lovering has joined electricals retailer Maplin Electronics as part of a wider reshuffle of its management team, it was revealed today.
Keith Pacey, Chairman of Maplin for 13 years, has announced his retirement from the trader, with current Managing Director Dave Whittle set to take his place.
Lovering, who has held the position of Chairman at fellow retailers Debenham and Homebase, charity the Retail Trust and pub group Mitchells and Butlers, is to join Maplin as non-executive Chairman.
Pacey said: “I have very much enjoyed my 13 years at Maplin watching the business grow and develop in this time.
“It now feels like the right moment to step down and I am very pleased to be handing over the reins to John whose experience makes him ideally suited to the job.
“John is joining a company in good health and with excellent prospects. I wish him and Dave Whittle the best of luck for the future.”
This latest reshuffle follows the disposal of three key directors at the company, Steve Milner, Steve Lynas and Laurence Saunders, three months ago as part of a streamlining process.
Maplin has proven adept at cutting waste from its operation in recent times with year-end results published in April revealing that its group profits had grown 1.1 per cent year-on-year despite like-for-like sales for the period declining 3.5 per cent.
On his appointment Lovering commented: “I am delighted to be joining Maplin. It has a great history and strong culture with an exciting future ahead.
“Keith and his colleagues have done an outstanding job and I look forward to working with the team to build on their achievements.”
