Shop staff were assaulted and money stolen after robbers smashed through a glass front door, reports The Derby Telegraph.

Two men broke into the One Stop, in Charlotte Street, Ilkeston, at closing time, around 11 last night.

Staff had locked the front door and were emptying the cash machine when a man walked up to the glass front door and smashed the pane with a crowbar. He was joined by a second man.

The woman emptying the ATM tried to run to the back of the shop with the cash she had removed from the machine but the men pushed her to the floor, stole the money and left.

They got into the passenger seats of a car, which was waiting outside, and a third man drove them away.

A witness followed the car and saw it crash at the junction of Newton‘s Lane and Shilo Way. The three men got out and ran off down Newton‘s Lane.

They are described as being of average build and around 5ft 11in. They wore dark clothing and had their faces covered.

Anyone with information should call police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
