Argos has appointed Henrietta Baring to the newly created role of IT, commercial and supply chain as it aims to be a digital leader.

The main goal of Baring will be to implement Argos‘ strategic vision of being the leader of digital retailing. She has joined the business to ensure that it lives up to its ‘More Choice, Available Faster‘ slogan, meaning that strict management of the supply chain, infrastructure and customer-facing developments will be integral to her role.

Previously from FrenchArdagh Group, where Baring led and delivered large-scale, capital-intensive and complex transformational programmes, her experience in the field stems from similar roles she fulfilled both in the UK and internationally.

According to the company‘s IT director, Mike Sackman, who Baring will be reporting to, she is expected to focus on systems that show real-time product availability and reduce lead times to customers, including systems that process customer orders for their local in-store pickup or their home delivery.

Sales from tablets and mobile phones made up more than a fifth of Argos‘ sales in the first quarter of its year.
