Record label giant Island will make a push into fashion and merchandise by this Autumn, with department stores understood to be frontrunners to stock its products.

Deck chairs, domino sets and other goods are planned, while it is understood that Island‘s vast pool of images will be leveraged.

“We have an iconic brand image and a large image base that we can use to sell a range of fashion products and merchandise,” Alex Waldron at Island life told Retail Gazette.

The record label already sells t-shirts, mugs, tote bags, books and CD‘s through its online shop.

Waldron was speaking at the Island Record takeover at Fairground in Haggerston with head of marketing Olivia Nunn on what goes on behind the scenes at the record label.

Island represents artists such as U2, Annie Lennox and Florence and the Machine and helped launch Bob Marley‘s career 50 years ago.

Furthermore, Island Records president Darcus Beese was awarded an OBE in the Queen‘s Birthday Honours list for service to the UK music industry on Saturday.
