Asda has soared to the top 20 on the table for best performing retail websites in the final quarter of the year. Entering the top 20 for the first time, the grocer has climbed 324 places to achieve the 19th spot.

The testing, which was carried out by specialist Sitemorse on the UK‘s top 500 retailers‘ sites, rated Asda a score of 5.72 out of 10 in comparison to 2.14 in Q3. This increase is significant as it was ranked as 401st with a score of 1.88 in the second quarter of this financial year.

Asda is one of two food retailers in the top 20, the other being family baker Waterfields which is a new entry to the table. Value retailer W Boyes & Co took the top position with an identical score to the previous quarter of 8.64, whilst Beds Direct came in second.

To calculate the results, Sitemorse uses an automated software that reads each retailer‘s online platform to check quality, user experience, accessibility, performance and SEO to generate a ranking figure.

Other retailers that improved ranking were Heals, WJ Daniel & Co, and Barrats that was up 252 place to the 51st spot. Retailers that received poor results include Mulberry which was down 277 places, Suit Direct which fell by 235 and Jane Norman which took the 330rd spot.

Despite poor financial results neither Prada, Tesco Direct nor Halfords were near the lower end of the table.
