Black Friday saw John Lewis reach its biggest ever week in sales history, with a revenue of nearly £200 million.

With sales, up 6.5 per cent on the same week last year, John Lewis raked in £199.8 million over its extended Black Friday week sales period.

This is despite overall retail figures showing sales way under expectations. Results from Springboard revealed that online sales rose by just 6.7 per cent this year, about half of the expected double digit rise.

According to the department store giant, shoppers favored mobile phone sales from midnight to 9am on Black Friday, but switched to desktops when they arrived at work. At its peak time the John Lewis website was receiving five orders a second.

The retailers best sellers were Sonos Play: 1 wireless speakers, GHD straighteners and Samsung TV‘s, reflected in its electrical arms 11 per cent sales rise, overshadowing the fashion sales with a 4.6 per cent rise.
