Tesco has announced plans to axe 1000 jobs as the grocer embarks on a major overhaul of its distribution network.
The UK‘s largest supermarket will close two of its distribution centres in Welham Green and Chesterfield.
Operations from the Welham Green warehouse will be moved to an existing site in Reading, where it will expand its workforce.
Tesco‘s distribution centre in Middlesbrough will also see a hike in staff, due to the closure of the Chesterfield site.
Tesco have stated these changes, thought to be taking place in June, will create around 500 new roles.

This is part of the grocer‘s plan to simplify its management structure and bring its warehouse operations in-house, departing from joint ventures with DHL and Wincanton.
“As the needs of our customers change, it’s vital we transform our business for the future,” Tesco chief executive Matt Davies said.
“As part of this we are proposing to close two of our distribution centres in the UK. These changes will help to simplify our distribution operations so we can continue to serve our customers better.
“Our priority throughout this process has been our colleagues and we will continue to do all we can to support them at this time.”
