Tesco has expanded its same day delivery service to across the entire UK, making it the first of the Big 4 grocers to do so.
The retailer has offered same day deliveries to shoppers in London and south east England since 2014 but today’s announcement means the service will soon be available nationwide by the end of August.
With over 300 stores in its estate, Tesco believes its same day delivery service will cater to 99 per cent of UK households.
The news comes after the grocer recorded an 18 per cent growth in demand for the same day service so far this year, and after it extended its click-and-collect service to 300 locations around the country in March.

Today’s announcement also means Tesco would become the only grocer to offer both same day grocer delivery and click-and-collect services nationwide.
Tesco’s closest rival, Sainsbury’s, currently offers same day delivery from 30 stores only.
The news comes as Ocado and AmazonFresh make in-roads in the online grocery sector and growth of discount grocers Aldi and Lidl continues to challenge the market share of the Big 4.
“Customers tell us they like getting their shopping delivered quickly and conveniently, and with our same day delivery service they can now order by lunch to get their shopping delivered for their evening meal,” Tesco’s online managing director Adrian Letts said.
“We‘ve seen the service grow in popularity since we launched it in London and the South East so we‘re really excited to be rolling it out to customers nationwide.”
Tesco customers can order by 1pm to have their shopping delivered from 7pm onwards and receive an unlimited number of items.
The same day delivery service is priced between £3 and £8 but is free for a limited period to members of Tesco‘s online delivery membership scheme, Delivery Saver.
Same day delivery will be available seven days a week in London and the South East and Monday to Saturday across the rest of the UK.
