Argos workers are preparing for a three-week strike after a row ignited over “redundancy and severance packages”.
Members of the Unite workers union have threatened to stage a strike after hundreds of staff members were transferred from a distribution hub in Leicestershire to Northamptonshire.
The union has raised concerns over the intentions of Argos‘s new parent company Sainsbury‘s, and its apparent focus on cutting costs.
Subsequently it has called for guarantees over redundancy arrangements, threatening strike action and delivery disruption.

“We are faced with the thin end of the wedge with Sainsbury’s pulling the strings behind the scenes, and the not-so-hidden agenda is serious cost-cutting to the detriment of our members,” Unite national officer Matt Draper said.
“We want a comprehensive national agreement with the employer covering redundancy and severance packages.”
Argos responded to the union‘s calls for strike action by stating: “We’re disappointed with the union’s actions, which are based on unreasonable demands and are wholly unnecessary.
“Customers can be reassured that we have full contingency plans in place to ensure there will be no disruption to deliveries.”
