Tesco’s seemingly innocuous Christmas advert has sparked a backlash and a subsequent heated debate due to its depiction of non-Christian families celebrating Christmas.
Some took to Twitter calling for a boycott of the UK’s largest supermarket after its “Everyone’s Welcome” advert was released.
The advert shows various families celebrating Christmas in their own homes, and features characters wearing both the hijab, and a Sikh turban.
Responding to the criticism Tesco stated: “Everyone is welcome at Tesco this Christmas and we’re proud to celebrate the many ways our customers come together over the festive season.”
