Kering and H&M crowned most sustainable fashion firms

Kering and H&M are the only fashion brands to have been named in an annual ranking of the world’s most sustainable corporations.

The Corporate Knights’ Global 100 index, which was announced at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, saw Kering named as the most sustainable textile, apparel and luxury goods corporation while H&M is the most sustainable speciality retail company.

Overall, Kering – which operates luxury retail brands Gucci and Stella McCartney – was ranked 47th most sustainable corporation while H&M was ranked 57th.

The Global 100 index measures corporations against an overall benchmark that factors in various elements of environmental sustainability, working conditions and leadership diversity.

“A criterion in all business decisions, traversing all departments and areas of our supply chain, we consider sustainability to be the Kering seal of savoir-faire,” Kering’s chief sustainability officer Marie-Claire Daveu said.

“Inclusion in Corporate Knights’ 2018 Global 100 as the most sustainable corporation in the textile, apparel and luxury sector, is thus truly an honour for Kering, and a source of motivation to continue our pursuit of a more sustainable luxury.”

The only other retailer to have made the Global 100 index is Finnish conglomerate Kesko, which came in at 31st.

However, while Kering and H&M trade in the UK, Kesko does not, with operations mostly in the Nordics, the Baltics and in Russia.
