Waitrose ends “confusing” loyalty scheme while rolling out yoga classes

Waitrose has revealed plans to end its “pick your own offers” loyalty scheme by the end of the month due to complaints that it was too confusing.

The offer is available to anyone who holds a myWaitrose card and allows customers to choose 10 items from a range of hundreds which will be discounted 20 per cent.

A staff briefing document stated that the offer was due to end on February 28 as customers found the “process for choosing and remembering their picks quite confusing”.

“We are always looking at how we reward our customers,” a Waitrose spokesperson said.

“We will be contacting all myWaitrose members on Thursday about how they can make savings more easily on the products they buy most often.”

The news comes as Waitrose announced a pilot scheme offering customers at three of its supermarkets evening Yoga classes.

Stores in Basingstoke, Banbury and Newbury will host Yoga classes for £7 in private rooms and cafes closed to shoppers, with a few to extending the scheme across its estate if it proves successful.

Over the last week Waitrose reported a 1.6 per cent year-on-year rise in sales thanks to a 40 per cent rise in house plant sales.

This drove a 0.9 per cent rise in sales at its parent John Lewis Partnership, offset by a 0.2 per cent decline at its stablemate department store John Lewis.
