£75m Intu Trafford refurbishment announced

Intu is set to launch a £75 million transformation of its Trafford shopping centre, expanding and redesigning its Barton Square area.

The retail property giant has hired Vinci Construction UK to handle the new project, which will see the space gain a new glass-domed roof and expand to include new retail units.

The project is due to start later this year with completion due for 2020.

A number of brands have reportedly already signed up to take the newly available space, with Primark confirmed as its new anchor.

“There’s nowhere else quite like intu Trafford Centre and we’re now investing £75 million to deliver a new space with a real ‘wow factor’ that will bring more brands and unique experiences to make our shoppers smile,” Intu regional managing director Colin Flinn said.

“Many of the things that make intu Trafford Centre so special will be extended into the Barton Square area of centre, allowing us to attract quality new brands and provide even more for people to shop, eat, play and do.

“We’re bringing a Primark store to intu Trafford Centre and will be announcing a number of other new retail and leisure operators soon.”

Intu is also in the midst of a major £180 million expansion to its centre in Watford, whichwill expand its retail and leisure offer by 400,000sq ft.
