Shoppers walking past Matalan’s shop window in Liverpool this weekend may have caught a fright after its mannequins moved to apply sunscreen.
The stunt, which saw models pose as mannequins in Matalan’s windows in Williamson Square while other volunteers handed out free samples of sunscreen to shoppers, was part of North West Cancer Research’s #suncreamselfie campaign.
That’s a wrap from us at @Matalan Williamson Sq! We’ve given out 2500 @SunSenseUK suncream samples and talked to lots of shoppers about how they can stay safe in the sun. Big thanks go to @CoyoteUglyUK staff for becoming mannequins for the day. pic.twitter.com/ixY92rFOG4

Other than scaring passers-by, the stunt was designed to spread awareness of skin cancer and remind shoppers to reapply sunscreen regularly in the summer sunshine.
“With temperatures rising once more this weekend it was the perfect time to take our sun safety message to Liverpool shoppers,” North West Cancer Research’s chief executive Alastair Richards said.
“We hope our window display caught people’s attention and were a timely reminder for them to wear sun cream.
“It’s shocking to see that so many people don’t even consider wearing sun cream in the UK, despite wearing it when on holiday.
“Thanks to Matalan, our models and SunSense we are able to highlight this important problem and hopefully encourage people in Liverpool to think about picking up sun cream the next time they head out.”
