Habitat opens first new flagship in 10 years

Design-focused furniture retailer Habitat has opened its first new standalone store in a decade.

Westfield London is one of two new flagship showrooms opening this autumn, with the second launching in Brighton in November.

Habitat’s new store 4,700 sq ft will feature in Westfield’s new Home department, which showcases homeware and furniture retailers.

The new flagship features over 1,400 Habitat products across furniture, lighting, textiles and home accessories, and works as an evolution of Habitat’s famous Tottenham Court Road store.

“Westfield London will be our first large format store to offer customers a new immersive Habitat shopping experience within a major shopping mall and is aimed at those that who want the convenience of different fashion, home and entertainment retailers in one easy to shop location,” Habitat managing director Clare Askem said of the launch.

“As we evolve the Habitat brand we’re conscious of catering for customers who increasingly want the choice of shopping in stores or online in a way that suits them. Alongside good digital growth we’ve seen a great reaction to our store format trials which allow customers to interact with our products in different retail environments,” Askem added.

Built within a white cube framework, Habitat said they have chosen to avoid imposing fixtures or dramatic displays and instead let the products speak for themselves.

“The store is designed as a calm, inspiring environment where customers can browse product at their leisure,” said Habitat senior designer Matthew Long.

The new Brighton store will open in the city’s Lanes shopping area, running across two floors with 6,500 sq ft of retailing space.
