Primark’s John Lyttle poached for new Boohoo chief executive role

Online fashion retailer Boohoo has poached Primark chief operating officer John Lyttle for the position of chief executive.

Lyttle will join Boohoo on March 15 2019, as Boohoo revealed it would be switching up its board roles to promote international expansion in the future.

Current joint chief executive Mahmud Kamani will become group executive chairman of the company.

Carol Kane, the business’ other joint chief executive will remain on the board in an executive role as group co-founder and executive director.

“We are thrilled to have secured a candidate of John’s calibre as our CEO. We have got to know John over a number of years and are convinced he has the necessary skills to complement what we already have and take the Group on to its next stage of growth. Both of us remain totally committed to the business and will ensure a measured and careful handover,” Kamani and Kane said in a statement this morning.

Lyttle will join Boohoo after seeing Primark through a period of impressive profitability.

During his time at the fast fashion retailer Primark’s turnover rose 158 per cent to over £7 billion with operating profit up 116 per cent to £735 million.

Lyttle also brings experience from Matalan and the Arcadia Group.
