Sports Direct eyes redundancies for House of Fraser head office staff

Several roles have reportedly been placed under consultation at House of Fraser’s London head office as part of Sports Direct’s plans to centralise its retail management operations.

The reports of impending redundancies, first published in Drapers, have since been corroborated by sources speaking to the Retail Gazette.

It is not yet known how many staff members at House of Fraser’s Baker Street head office will be affected.

However, the redundancies are reportedly going to be made in the department store’s central and support teams, but not in buying and merchandising.

Those who will keep their jobs will be relocated to the London office for Sports Direct, which is based on Oxford Street above the Flannels store.

They will be sharing the same building as the London office for Sports Direct’s other retail brands, such as USC and Flannels.

The Retail Gazette has approached Sports Direct for comment.

It is not yet clear if the closure of the head office is a new and recent plan or something that has been part of Sports Direct’s strategy since it acquired House of Fraser out of administration in August.

The closure of the Baker Street officer was part of the CVA that House of Fraser had launched before it fell into administration.
