Marks & Spencer has launched a photo search feature on its mobile website called Style Finder as it aims to become a “digital-first retailer”.

The department store launched the technology today, which allows customers to search through thousands of M&S’ menswear and womenswear items using a photo.

Users can take a photo of an outfit or style they like on social media, a magazine or in a store and use the app to search for similar items available at M&S.

“We know our customers are busier than ever and are often most inspired when they’re out and about,” M&S head of digital product Jim Cruickshank said.

“Style Finder helps customers instantly find what they’re looking for, without the need to manually search and filter through our products.

“Enhancing the customer experience is central to our digital transformation journey.

“This is a brilliant example of how we’re becoming more relevant, more often, to our customers who are increasingly shopping online and in particular using mobile devices.”

This forms part of the bellwether retailer’s push towards digitising its operations, aiming to receive a third of all its clothing revenue from online sales by 2022.
