Marks & Spencer has revealed plans to open a new full-line, 40,000sq ft anchor store in St Helens, just a few months after it closed down its previous store in a different part of town.

The bellwether retailer may vacated its original St Helens branch at Hardshaw Centre last year, but it is now relocating to a larger space just down the road at Ravenhead Retail Park.

Slated to open March 14, the new store also means M&S will continue its presence of 90-plus years in the Merseyside town’s retail scene.

Staff members from the previous Hardshaw Centre branch are also transferring over to the new store, and M&S said a number of new jobs will be created.

“My team and I are really excited about relocating to our new store at Ravenhead Retail Park, where we’ll continue to offer outstanding service for customers,” store manager Lucy Grimes said.

She added: “Cutting the ribbon and welcoming customers into our new store on Thursday 14th March will be a great moment for the team and mark the start of our next chapter – I hope lots of local customers will pop down and join us.”

M&S is in the middle of a significant and broad turnaround scheme, which involves investments in shutting down and re-organising its store estate while pivoting towards food retail.

Its full-line, new-format M&S store at Revenhead Retail Park – which is operated by shopping centre giant Hammerson – will feature a full and larger range of items in the clothing and home department, a foodhall, and a 64-seat café.

Customers can also access click and collect services and free parking.

“We are delighted that Marks & Spencer has chosen Ravenhead to increase their presence in the town and look forward to the brand joining our varied retail line-up, including Next, Argos, Boots and Costa,” Hammerson UK retail director Andrew Berger-North said.
