Pets at Home has launched its new “Store of the Future” makeover in Stockport and Chesterfield.

The £1 million makeover offers a new store format, and includes revamped veterinary practices and groom rooms for pet care.

The new format will also see the launch of Pets at Home’s first cat adoption lounge, which is in partnership with the charity RSPCA to help customers who are considering adopting a cat.

Meanwhile, the new format stores include a “pet village” which features dog washing stations, selfie spots and pet care classes.

Events are also due to take place at the new stores where customers can learn about dog grooming during a live demonstration.

Pet owners can take advantage of a new self-wash station, where they can wash and blow-dry their dogs in the purpose-built facilities.

The makeover is also catered to children as it involves interactive child-friendly events, which includes catering for birthday parties.

“We’ve always known that our stores are much more than just a convenience shop for pets and now we’re providing them with the million-pound makeover they deserve,” Pets at Home group chief executive Peter Pritchard said.

“The retail industry is constantly evolving, and many retailers are only targeting resources towards online platforms.

“We believe that this competitive landscape requires a combined online/offline offer to ensure the ultimate in convenience and personal service for our customers.”
