Sainsbury’s teams up with Deliveroo to offer hot takeaways

// Sainsbury’s announces partnership with Deliveroo
// It will offer customers hot takeaways from 5 stores – Cambridge, Selly Oak, West Hove, Pimlico & Hornsey
// It is part of a 2 month trial

Sainsbury’s has teamed up with Deliveroo to deliver freshly baked pizzas straight from the supermarket counter to customers’ homes, as part of a two-month trial.

The initiative launched today in five stores across five cities – Cambridge, Selly Oak, West Hove, Hornsey, and London’s Pimlico.

While Sainsbury’s has become the UK’s first supermarket to offer hot takeaways through Deliveroo, it’s not the first partnership with a food delivery service.

Earlier this month, Asda expanded its partnership with Just Eat to offer customers the chance to order groceries that would be delivered to their door in just 30 minutes.

The Walmart-owned grocer said it was trialling the service in addition to the food delivery service already in place that allows shoppers to order freshly cooked pizzas from Asda stores.

Sainsbury’s new trial is part of a drive to develop and implement digital technologies to improve customer experience.

As well as hot pizzas, customers will be able to purchase sweet and savoury snacks; sides, salads and dips as well as drinks.

Meanwhile, Sainsbury’s will have extra staff to help manage the counters which will stay open later to fulfil customer demand.

“With more and more shoppers looking for convenient and affordable meals delivered to their doors, our trial with Deliveroo brings our great value hot food direct to customers’ homes,” Sainsbury’s group chief digital officer Clodagh Moriarty said.
