The number of self-made millionaires on Ebay has soared by 18 per cent in the past year despite challenging trading conditions.

Almost 1300 users have been defined as millionaires in the last 12 months, which is the most since 2009, according to new figures from the ecommerce giant.

In the last year, Ebay millionaires have seen revenues of £1 million or more generated through the online marketplace.

The fastest growing age groups to become self-made from Ebay are under 30 and over 60 years of age, while home, furniture and DIY entrepreneurs were regarded as the most successful.

Meanwhile, Coventry is recognised as home to the fastest growing number of new Ebay millionaires.

Ebay has also revealed that the top three UK Ebay millionaire capitals are London, Manchester and Birmingham.

“The uplift in the number of Ebay millionaires demonstrates how entrepreneurs up and down the country are keeping up with the ever-changing needs of consumers, despite some tough economic conditions,” Ebay UK vice president Rob Hattrell said.

“We are passionate about offering entrepreneurs a shop window to 180 million consumers worldwide.

“Whether they’re starting their first business as a hobby while juggling studies or launching a second career as empty nesters, our sellers are making the most of our opportunities and making millions thanks to their spirit and ambition.”
