Retail Gazette Loves: Intu’s Upside Down houses

More often than not, people usually escape into upside down worlds in their dreams.

But Intu has now made that topsy-turvy fantasy into a reality – not that we’re complaining.

The shopping centre giant is bringing its Upside Down Houses to Intu Trafford this month, following the success of the venture at Intu Lakeside earlier in the year.

In a bid to offer shoppers more unique customer experiences, Intu said the concept will be rolled out to six more of its shopping centres later this year, including Intu Metrocentre and Intu Braehead.

Each inverted two-storey house features a number of different upside-down rooms for customers to explore, with unique interior and exterior designs to reflect the character of its local surrounds.

But the best thing? Customers can take upside down, Instagram-worthy “zero-gravity” while visiting the attraction.

“The Upside Down House is a fun experience for all the family where your world is literally turned upside down,” Intu customer experience director Roger Binks said.

“It has been a huge draw at Intu Lakeside and perfectly complements the transformation of this much-loved centre into a place to relax, unwind, eat, play and shop.

“We run some of the country’s most popular retail destinations so really see its potential to thrive at intu’s high footfall locations across the UK.”

The programme is part of Intu’s exclusive partnership with Bournemouth-based entertainment project Upside Down House UK.

“This will give everyone around the UK the chance to experience what it’s like to walk on the ceiling, take amazing photos and share them with your friends and families online and in personm” the projects’ chief executive, Tom Dirse, said.
