Karen Millen CEO exits amid fresh round of job cuts

// Karen Millen & Coast CEO Beth Butterwick has reportedly left the business since Boohoo’s takeover
// All pattern cutting roles at Karen Millen and Coast have also been placed into consultancy
// Affected staff have been offered redeployment opportunities in Boohoo’s Manchester HQ

Karen Millen and Coast chief executive Beth Butterwick has reportedly left her role amid further redundancies after the two brands were acquired by Boohoo earlier this month.

According to Drapers, not only has Butterwick departed the business, but all pattern cutting roles at Karen Millen and Coast have also been placed into consultancy.

Affected staff, who are mostly based in London, were reportedly informed on Monday and have been offered redeployment opportunities at Boohoo’s headquarters in Manchester.

On August 6, Boohoo acquired the brands, intellectual property and online business of Karen Millen and Coast in a pre-pack administration deal worth £18.2 million.

The deal resulted in 62 initial job cuts, but speculation was rife that Karen Millen and Coast’s remaining 1100-strong workforce would also be vulnerable.

Coast had only been part of the Karen Millen family since December, when the latter acquired the former’s UK concessions portfolio and online business.

While the online business has been saved, Karen Millen and Coast will continue to trade through its 32 stores and 177 concessions in the UK for a short time as an administration process continues.

The international arm of Karen Millen will also continue trading in the short term.

Boohoo is poised to relaunch Karen Millen and Coast’s online offering in early October.

Boohoo has not provided a comment on the latest round of redundancies.
