Walgreens Boots Alliance has appointed Francesco Tinto as its new global chief information officer and senior vice president.

Tinto will oversee the global strategy of the IT operations across the company, as well as oversee the implementation of its technology and digital innovations.

His role will include data analytics, business intelligence, development, support, infrastructure, security and technical services.

Walgreens Boots Alliance is the parent company of UK health and beauty retail chain Boots.

Tinto will be based at Walgreens Boots Alliance’s headquarters in Illinois, US, and will report to co-chief operating officers Ornella Barra and Alex Gourlay.

“I am very glad to be joining Walgreens Boots Alliance at a time when technology and innovation are more important than ever to the company’s success,” Tinto said.

“I am looking forward to working with my highly-talented team around the world to ensure WBA is at the forefront in this critical area of the business.”

Anthony Roberts, who previously served as Walgreen Boots Alliance’s global chief information officer and senior vice president, will retire from this position to focus on other non-executive roles outside of the company.

He will also be retained to support the company in an advisory capacity.
