Laura Ashley has announced the resignation of Sean Anglim, its finance director and joint chief operating officer, after more than 20 years with the retailer.

Anglim will remain with Laura Ashley until the end of 2019.

In the meantime, financial controller Sagar Mavani has been promoted to the role of chief financial officer to replace him.

Anglim has been part of Laura Ashley since 1996.

He worked his way up to chief financial officer in 2009, and then joint chief operating officer in 2011.

In 2012, he was appointed to both roles.

“The board would like to take this opportunity to thank Mr Anglim for his contribution during his tenure with the company and to wish him the very best for the future,” Laura Ashley said in a statement.

Anglim’s departure comes during a difficult period for Laura Ashley, after it swung to a full-year pre-tax loss of almost £10 million earlier this year.

The loss was driven by poor performance in its home furnishings business and an online sales decline.
