The festive season is now in full swing, and this can only mean one thing for retailers: Christmas advert season. Okay, maybe not just one thing, but there’s no denying the power of a good Christmas advert – no matter what marketing budget retailers have.

Here’s a roundup of the latest 2019 Christmas adverts in UK retail. We’ll keep updating this page each time a new campaign is launched.

Tesco – Delivering Christmas

Tesco delivery driver Joel travels back through time in celebration of the grocer’s 100th anniversary.

He’s seen delivering making deliveries to Victorian children, Winston Churchill on Downing St and even handing out nibbles at a party in the 1970s.

Homebase – Monster Fairy

In the retailers first Christmas TV spot since 2015, a mother receives her own ‘Monster Fairy’ from her daughter to add onto her tastefully decorated living room and Christmas tree.

Boden – Real Stars of Christmas

Boden celebrate the real stars of Christmas – doctors, nurses and hospital staff – who often miss out on festive and New Year’s celebrations.

The fashion retailer surprises a group of hospital staff with a festive fashion makeover and Christmas party.

John Lewis Partnership – Excitable Edgar

John Lewis has enlisted the help of pop-rock band Bastille for its first ever joint Christmas advert with stablemate Waitrose.

The two retailers, which are owned by the John Lewis Partnership, have come together to create an advert which tells the story of a little girl named Ava and an excitable young dragon named Edgar.

Debenhams 

X Factor and I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here contestant Fleur East appears as a fairy godmother in Debenhams’ Christmas campaign which focuses on “hard to buy for” loved ones.

Burberry – What is Love?

The luxury retailer celebrates the essence of love at Christmas – highlighting those who make you happy and bring joy.

The campaign features a host of celebrities including veteran model Carla Bruni as well as England footballer Ruben Loftus-Cheek.

Sainsbury’s – Nicholas the Sweep

Salisbury’s marks its 150th anniversary in its advert by giving Santa Clause his own superhero origin story.

Set in Drury Lane Victorian London, the campaign follows the story of a young chimney sweep named Nicholas and how he becomes father Christmas.

Zalando – Free to be

Soundtracked to T Rex’s Cosmic Dancer, the online retailer foucses on family in its Christmas campaign – as we see a young man take his grandmother to a Christmas Ball.

Joules – Christmas at the Click of a Button!

The retailer shares its 30th anniversary with Wallace & Gromit and to mark the milestone they’re spending the Christmas season together.

The advert shows the iconic duo getting preparing for the Christmas period surrounded by  Joules products.

The online retail giant’s advert features people alongside singing parcels while they give or deliver gifts to loved ones.

JD Sports – Come Alive

The retailer’s advert features a host of celebrities and athletes to promote its range of products available for the festive season.

Gap – The Hoodie

Gap’s Christmas campaign tells the story of a young boy and his mother and the evolution of their relationship over the years.

Argos – The Book of Dreams

Argos puts its classic catalogue at the forefront of its Christmas campaign for the first time in a decade.

Boots – Introducing Bootiques by Boots

Boots’ Christmas campaign highlights the retailers new e-commerce platform, showing that there’s something for everyone at Boots this Christmas – easing the shopping experience for all.

Selfridges – Future Fantasy

Filled with celebrity cameos, the luxury department store tells an alternative Christmas tale for the present and future.

Barbour

The fashion retailer reprises Raymond Briggs’ Father Christmas donning a Barbour wax jacket to highlight the item’s longevity. The animation shows Santa in three decades – the 1930s, 1960s and 2019.

M&S Clothing & Home – Go Jumper

Helmed by the same director of Beyoncé’s iconic Single Ladies music video – M&S’s advert shows people wearing 50 different jumpers from its knitwear ranges while dancing to House of Pain’s iconic track Jump Around.
