// Just 9% of shoppers plan to buy a real Christmas tree this year
Brits spend an estimated £185 on Christmas decorations over the whole year, according to new research.
A total of 75 per cent of consumers are willing to spend that much on festive decor, while 40 per cent are reported to put up two trees, Hayes Garden World’s latest report found.
The garden centre which sells both real and artificial options, found that artificial Christmas trees are the more popular option.

Meanwhile, 50 per cent of Hayes’ Christmas trees are sold on Black Friday, which indicates “just how important cost is to consumers”.
“Make sure to stock up on baubles and string lights this festive season as the results show that they are the shopper’s favourite decorations,” Hayes Garden World ecommerce director Lyndan Orvis said.
“Over 90 per cent of respondents said they will be purchasing them this year.”
“It is great to see that artificial Christmas trees have a stronghold in the market. As consumers are beginning to buy more than one tree there is a great opportunity to sell additional trees alongside the main Christmas tree purchase”.
“As a retailer that sells both real and artificial Christmas trees, it’s interesting to see that just nine per cent of shoppers plan to buy a real Christmas tree this year,” she said.
Hayes Garden World surveyed over 2000 Brits for responses.
