// The Presidents Club sells skimpy womenswear and is named after a scandalous charity event

House of Fraser has come under fire for stocking a controversial clothing range named The Presidents Club.

The clothing range was named after a mens-only fundraising event which saw waitresses being made to wear tight clothing and accept groping and sexual harassment.

The charity, which was aimed at 300 businessmen and held at the Dorchester Hotel, closed down in 2018, a month before Martyn Warden registered the trademark.

Former Prime Minister Theresa May and Labour MP Christian Matheson showed their concerns over the charity at the time of its scandal in 2018, while the shadow secretary for women Dawn Butler said Mike Ashley’s department store chain is attempting to trade off the controversy.

The Presidents Club collections are largely made up of t-shirts and tracksuits in black and gold to give “the brand a clear identity that rises above its mid-market rivals”.

The women’s range features body hugging black dresses that reveal underwear.

The collection is also stocked by USC, which has 97 shops in the UK and is also owned by Frasers Group, the same parent company as House of Fraser.

Meanwhile, Footasylum currently sells the brand’s menswear range.

Last week, Frasers Group announced it will open a new Frasers store in Sheffield next year, marking the first major signing since plans for the department store fascia were recently unveiled.
