Amazon has received backlash for selling clothing labelled “Let’s Make Down Syndrome Extinct”.

The ecommerce giant was condemned by users who took to social media to express concerns over the slogan t-shirts.

A group of mothers discovered the t-shirts on the website and took a screengrab to post on Twitter before Amazon removed the products from its platform on Wednesday.

One user raised the issue by accusing Amazon of a “hate crime”.

Amazon has not commented on the matter.

This is not the first time Amazon has been embroiled in controversy.

Last year, Amazon was slammed for selling Holocaust-themed Christmas ornaments. In 2018, numerous items such as Swastika coins, Waffen-SS figurines, painting kits and stamps commemorating Hitler were readily available on its platform.

Despite the controversy, Amazon has continued to appeal to a wider market with its sustainable values.

Last month, Amazon founder and chief executive Jeff Bezos committed $10 billion (£7.7 billion) of his personal wealth to fund scientists, activists, non-profits and other groups fighting to protect the environment.

He told followers on Instagram a new “Bezos Earth Fund” would start to distribute cash within months.
