Browns pledges to honour all product orders amid Covid-19

Browns has pledged to honour all the orders it has placed with the designer labels it sells as the Covid-19 pandemic continues to force many retailers to cancel their orders.

“Our business is nurtured by our staff and our values,” Browns chief executive Holli Rogers told Fashion Network.

“Our designers are the foundation Browns is built on.”

Rogers said Browns was mindful of the economic pressures weighing on younger labels and in order to help them minimise Covid-19’s impact it won’t cancel any orders.

Browns menswear and womenswear buying director Ida Petersson told Fashion Network that the retailer would not cancel any orders placed for autumn/winter 2020/21 unless asked by the labels themselves.

She said Browns usually pays emerging designers before they begin production and that its accounting department is adhering to the policy during the pandemic.

“My team and I are making sure we are constantly in touch with our designers, so that we are aware of what we can do to help them,” Petersson said.

She added that Browns has already seen changes in consumer behaviour as shoppers become more interested in lifestyle and interior design items.

Browns, which is owned by online retailer Farfetch, is renowned for selling a range of emerging designer labels.

Earlier this month it launched its Family Affair initiative in support of young designers.

The retailer will give direct support to young creatives and ask them to curate and produce content for its website and social media accounts.

“The project’s goal is to support young creatives in these lockdown times by giving them a platform to express themselves, at the same time generating inspirational content for Browns’s clientèle,” Browns said in a press release.
