Debenhams has confirmed it will reopen its eight stores in Wales on Tuesday 23 June as trading restrictions are eased.

The revised guidance from the Scottish Government means that Debenhams will be able to open six of its Scottish stores on June 29.

The openings follow a successful first few days’ trading in England, when when lockdown for non-essential retail came to an end.

The remaining stores in Scotland will not be able to open before July while restrictions on shopping centres remain in place.

Debenhams reopened an additional 38 stores in England on June 17.

At the time, it confirmed that its remaining store estate in England will reopen “shortly thereafter”.

“After 10 days of trading in Northern Ireland and England, demand has been above plan, particularly for beauty, kidswear and summer fashion, and we have not seen any cannibalisation of our online performance,” Debenhams managing director Steven Cook said.

“We look forward to welcoming Welsh and Scottish customers back to our stores in the coming weeks in the confidence that our customers and colleagues are finding our extra safety precautions reassuring without impeding their comfort or convenience,” he said.
