Aldi has donated over 500,000 meals to UK charities during the Christmas period as it unloaded unsold fresh and chilled food after stores closed on December 24.
The German discounter has donated 506,000 meals as it ramped up support for local charities, community groups and food banks.
Around 210 tonnes of food were donated to more than 750 causes across the country over the period.

Aldi said the donation is its largest to date and has helped those in need at a time when more people are experiencing financial hardship and food insecurity due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
It said it expects to donate a further 200,000 meals to charitable causes across the country.
Moreover, its partnership with community giving platform Neighbourly helps link businesses to charitable organisations.
The partnership will help all of Aldi’s 894 UK stores now donate surplus food to good causes seven days a week, all year round.
Since beginning this partnership in April 2019, Aldi has donated more than 10 million meals across the UK.
“We are proud to have been able to support charitable causes across the country this Christmas, helping to provide warm and healthy festive meals,” Aldi UK managing director of corporate responsibility Luke Peech said.
“The feedback has been overwhelming and we’re really pleased to be able to do what we can for those in need within the community in what has been an incredibly tough year for some.”
