This year in traditional Selfridges style, the department store has pulled out all the stops, unveiling its earth-conscious festive windows centred around Christmas trees.
The pandemic may have prevented us from travelling as freely as we normally would, so the luxury department store made their festive spectacle virtual – allowing customers to enjoy the window display from the comfort of their own home.
In the spirit of the department store’s long-standing commitment to sustainability with Project Earth, Selfridges also used more recycled materials than ever before.
Harvey Nichols
This year Harvey Nichols adorned their Knightsbridge flagship windows with lights and star motifs alongside a “Bring on 2021” message.
“2020 has been a year unlike any other,” Harvey Nichols head of visual display Janet Wardley said.
“We’ve come up with a concept that looks forward to the New Year, whilst also reflecting the sentiment that many of us are feeling at present.”
“All done with Harvey Nichols’ sense of humour that we hope will raise a smile in passers-by.”
Harrods
This Christmas, the world-famous luxury department store unveiled a festive display that not only covers the windows but the entire store. Essentially, Harrods transforms into a present.

Fenwick
Earlier this month Fenwick revealed its Wind in the Willows Christmas display at its flagship Newcastle store, based on the children’s book by Scottish novelist Kenneth Grahame.
Oxford Street & Regent Street, London
This list wouldn’t be complete without mentioning some of the most recognisable festive light displays in London.
The lights run the entire length of Oxford Street from Marble Arch to Tottenham Court Road.
Meanwhile, the iconic Christmas lights on Regent Street feature the return of Christmas angels.
Fortnum & Mason
The luxury retailer’s famous Piccadilly store was transformed into one giant advent calendar this year.
“Come December we’ll be celebrating the countdown to Christmas on a grander scale than ever before – and if nothing else, you’ll be able to use our store façade to tell both the time, thanks to our merry clock, retuned to play a collection of festive melodies on the hour, and the date, giving you no excuses to leave your Christmas shopping to the last minute,” Fortnum & Mason stated.
Cartier
The luxury jewellery retailer is renowned for its eye-catching festive displays and this year is no different.
Londoners and tourists alike can visit Cartier’s Flagship on Bond Street which is covered in a large gift bow alongside its signature panther.
The New Bond Street boutique is also displaying a light and music show every day at 5pm, 6pm and 7pm.
Liberty
This year Liberty’s Christmas theme is Peace, Love and Liberty and its window displays are all based on a series of hand-painted scarf designs created by Liberty’s design director during lockdown.
“This Christmas needed to evoke emotion, strength and happiness,” visual concept manager Lisa Clemenger said.
“We had signed off our Christmas 2020 concept in February, but as we progressed through lockdown, the theme wasn’t right anymore – we came back to work in June and realised we had to start all over again.”
Burlington Arcade
One of Britain’s oldest purpose-built shopping destinations, Burlington Arcade, may have had a sharp fall in footfall this year amid the pandemic but its Christmas decorations have been attracting tourists and locals alike in Mayfair.
Seven Dials
Just a short walk from Covent Garden in central London is Seven Dials, where shoppers can enjoy the festive light displays.
Visitors can also head to 19 Earlham Street to visit Father Christmas and his elves at work in his Grotto in the first ever live window display in London’s West End.
