Clarks has opened a new Originals store in the building where the company was founded almost 200 years ago.

The branch in Street, in Somerset, is the second UK Originals store for the retailer and will sell shoes including the Desert Boot and the Wallabee.

The other Originals outlet is on Berwick Street in Soho, in London.

The footwear retailer will be using the Somerset shop to sell classic styles such as the Desert Boot and Wallabee as well as a range of new season options.

The second standalone Originals store in the UK, it will also celebrate the history and roots of the Clarks Originals brand.

This will include showcasing archival shoe fobs, explaining how signature styles are constructed, and the display of Al Fingers’ Clarks in Jamaica book (One Love Books), which marks the long-standing connection between Clarks Originals and Jamaica’s culture.

Shoes from the brand’s collaborations will also be stocked, including the recent 80s-inspired Clarks Originals x Levi’s Vintage collection and shoes from Clarks’ longstanding partnership with streetwear brand Supreme.

Customers can visit the new store from 10am to 4pm, Monday to Saturday and while there they can experience the retailer’s latest launches and campaign films on screens around the shop.

The announcement comes just days after Clarks said the majority of workers at its warehouse in Somerset had now signed new terms and conditions amid an ongoing strike over a so-called ‘fire and rehire’ policy.

Last month more than 100 Clarks staff at the shoe retailer’s Westway warehouse in Street walked out over the policy saying it would reduce pay and conditions.
