Until 10 years ago, the selection of plus sized clothing available within fashion retailers was limited, at best.
With only a limited number of brands selling clothing in larger sizes, it became evident that many retailers were avoiding backlash – although some retailers ultimately received criticism for not releasing an inclusive range (namely Victoria’s Secret).
For too long, mainstream fashion has excluded those who are a UK size 18 and upwards (despite the UK average being a size 16), with many retailers going no further than a size 14.
Retail Gazette has listed some retailers that currently offer a plus size range.
Asos
With over 5,500 items currently available on Asos Curve, variety and choice is the retailer’s greatest selling point.
Everything from size-inclusive jewellery to suits and bikinis are available on the site, making Asos Curve a one-stop shop.
H&M
H&M offers plus sized basics, loungewear and chic dresses. As well as its own plus size range H&M+, the main range also features pieces that go up to a size 2X.
River Island
River Island was one of the first high street retailers to offer a dedicated plus size range. Its River Island Plus collection sells a variety of reasonably-priced staple pieces.
Nike
Nike is up there as one of the frontrunners in championing diversity within the fitness industry. Not only was it the first sports brand to introduce plus size mannequins into its flagship stores, but the brand also has a huge plus size collection, which goes up to a UK size 32.
Very
Very’s plus size range features key pieces, statement prints, current trends and a host of name brands which go up to a UK size 28.
Ann Summers
Ann Summers’s plus size lingerie collection is vast, including an array of mesh bodysuits, crotchless panties, costumes, as well as bridal lingerie.
Adidas
The plus size collection from Adidas features high support sports bras with sizes up to a 48E, to plus size tights, T-shirts, windbreaker jackets and tracksuits, in sizes up to a 4X.
New Look
New Look has a dedicated online Curves section, with prices around £20 for neutrals and wardrobe essentials.
Yours Clothing
The online retailer offers a selection of trends and seasonal pieces and stocks multiple brands such as Hell Bunny, Izabel Curve and Chi Chi London.
Pretty Little Thing
Pretty Little Thing’s Curve section offers bodysuits and bottoms as well as dresses, bralets and jackets. The 1,425 piece range echoes the style of the main PLT collection. Prices max out at £40.
In The Style
In the Style’s Curve collection offers dresses, swimwear and coats in sizes up to 28. With collab collections with reality TV stars like Dani Dyer, the fast fashion retailer is catered towards a younger audience.
Simply Be
Simply Be is one the biggest plus size retailers and offers an extensive plus size stockist range, having everything from Dorothy Perkins and Levis, to Tommy Hilfiger and Calvin Klein. The retailer also offers a variety of own-brand wide fit shoes, boots and sandals.
Quiz
The fashion retailer’s Curve collection offers an occasionwear collection alongside wardrobe staples and holiday-ready bargains.
Boohoo
The fast fashion giant features new pieces daily at budget-friendly prices. There are sections for Maternity as well as Petite, and Tall. Prices average £30 or less.
