Retailers including M&S, Tesco, Sainsbury’s and Asos have updated the market this month on how they performed over the all-important Christmas period. Retail Gazette keeps track on how the big retailers have fared during 2021’s golden quarter.
With Christmas 2020 proving so volatile as Covid restrictions led to store closures around the country, we have also compared retailers’ golden quarter sales’ performance against Christmas 2019 to get a truer picture of how they performed.
No real surprises here. Retailers who stuck to their core offer and made a real effort to maximise on Christmas were duly rewarded by consumers. It would be interesting to see some comparisons between the performance of retailers with stores in retail parks compared to those in towns.
