Sainsbury’s expands World Food offering

// 500 Sainsbury’s superstores will be increasing its World Food space
// Over 500 convenience stores will also have a range of the new lines

Sainsbury’s has announced it is adding over 350 brand-new World Food products across 1,118 UK stores.

The move is the biggest investment into its World Food category to date.

The Big 4 grocer revealed 50 of the new ranges have been chosen by its colleagues, as the supermarket diversifies its food offering further and builds on the supermarkets work to ensure inclusivity for all customers “no matter their ethnic or religious backgrounds”.

As a result, over 500 Sainsbury’s superstores will be increasing its World Food space by 57%, featuring new cupboard, canned and packaged items.

Chilled products have already launched in 417 Sainsbury’s sites, with frozen items being launched in 367 stores at the end of this month.

Over 500 convenience stores will also have a range of the new lines.

“It’s important our customers can buy products that meet their everyday needs and tie in with cultural and religious celebrations, and so we’re pleased to announce this expansion of and investment in our World Food range,” Sainsbury’s food commercial director Rhian Bartlett said.

“We’re proud to have worked with our ethnically diverse colleague network ‘I AM ME’ on the changes made. We hope the new lines and increased store space allows for World Food shoppers to get more of what they need under one roof, as we continue our ambition to be a truly inclusive retailer.”

The news comes as the grocer a growing popularity in its World Food products, seeing sales increase by 25% since 2019.
